Founded in early 2006, the St. Martin's special Home School is an educational facility that provides specialised education to children who are disadvantaged and have found it difficult to fit within mainstream schools. The school has grown from only having 6 learners to 26 learners in 2007, and so when it was announced that the school was accepting applications for 2007, over 100 applications were received, proving that there is a demand for such a facility. Unfortunately St. Martin’s could not accept all 100 applications, as much as it would have liked to!
St. Martin’s see the school growing from strength to strength and anticipate its expansion with each new year.
Sources of Funding
The Victor Daitz foundation has been instrumental to the school’s success, providing the bulk of the funds required to operate the school in 2006, and again in 2007. Funds were also received from the Bishop of Natal, and R50 000 was received from a convicted drug lord who was required to pay the sum of money as a fine to a charity. The money was put to good use.
